Flower Bio: Campanula (Campanula portenschlagiana)

Botanical Family: Campanulaceae (Bellflower Family)

Related to: balloon flower, lobelia, star creeper

Born in: Campanula is distributed over a wide range in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest diversity of Campanula originates from Southern Europe and Turkey.

Bred by: The Get Mee® series of Campanula are bred in Denmark. The plant breeders continue to refine and improve this series, as they have since 1991.

All-Star Varieties: There is a choice of purple, pink or white-flowered Campanulas available as indoor houseplants.

Fun Fact: The heroine in the fairytale “Rapunzel” took her name from Rampion (Campanula rapunculus). In the Brother Grimm’s version of the tale, the story describes a theft of rampion plants from an enchantress’s garden. She is named Rampion (aka Rapunzel) after the stolen plants for which she was exchanged to forgive the infraction.

Indoors or Outdoors?: This plant will survive outdoors in regions where the temperature stays above -30°F, but will also thrive in a brightly lit indoor location.
