Features
Blood oranges are some of the most unique of all the citrus fruits. The skin is orange blushed with a tint of red, but it is the deep crimson-red inner flesh that gives this orange its name. Because of its beauty, this is a great choice for garnishing desserts, appetizer trays and cocktails. The flavor is sweet with a hint of berry flavor. Like all citrus, blood oranges are a great source of vitamins and are a higher source of antioxidants than other oranges. Blood oranges originated in China, but are suitable for temperate climates world-wide.
Uses
Utilize citrus trees in the landscape just like any ornamental tree. Give enough space that light is available from all sides, away from the shade of larger trees or buildings. A great plant for large patio containers where the fragrant flowers can be enjoyed and the fruit easily picked. Can also be grown indoors if space and ample sunlight can be provided.
