The ‘Ponkan’ Tangerine is one of the oldest mandarin tangerines and remains one of the most popular varieties for the many attributes it brings to the landscape. Just for starters, when this citrus tree sets its blooms it attracts the North American Giant Swallowtail butterfly which uses it and other citrus trees for food in the larval stage. This upright, vigorous growing tree is one of the best for producing delectable fruit with very little seeds that are extremely easy to peel. ‘Ponkan’ is considered an alternate bearer, which means, every other year it produces plentiful amounts of fruit. Add some exotic flavor to your landscape!
Utilize citrus trees in the landscape just like any ornamental tree. Give enough space that light is available from all sides, away from the shade of larger trees or buildings. A great plant for large patio containers where the fragrant flowers can be enjoyed and the fruit easily picked. Can also be grown indoors if space and ample sunlight can be provided.
