Features
Noble fir is a North American native conifer found mainly in the Cascade mountain range of the Pacific Northwest. This is a slow growing evergreen tree that won’t quickly take over an area. It has a nice, symmetrical, pyramidal form with glaucous bluish-green needles. The sweetly scent scented foliage makes it popular for Christmas trees and cut boughs for wreaths, garland, and winter container arrangements.
Large pine cones are produced when the tree gets to be around 20’ (6m) tall. They start out green and mature to purplish brown, releasing seeds in the fall.
Also known as red fir and its former botanical name, Abies nobilis.
Uses
Makes a lovely specimen in the landscape and brings color to the winter landscape. Dense enough for a privacy screen or windbreak. Perfect for naturalizing in its native range. Provides shelter and nesting sites for birds and small mammals.
