Features
The tea camellia is an attractive evergreen shrub or small tree native to East Asia. The leaves and buds of this Camellia species are the source of tea (not to be confused with “herbal tea” which are beverages made from any other plant). Tea is a beverage that has been enjoyed by people throughout the world for centuries.
Tea camellias are slow-growing plants with good heat and drought tolerance once established. Mature plants (4 years or older) produce fragrant white flowers from fall to early winter followed by seed capsules that may take months to mature. Tea plants can be grown indoors near a bright window where the plant will receive six or more hours of light each day.
Uses
An excellent foundation, hedge, or border plant. A perfect addition to an edible garden or specimen in an Asian-themed garden design. Tea camellia can be grown in a large tub or pot on a sunny patio, deck or balcony.
